CES iPad Killers’ Showing Off: Will It Work Against The iPad 2?

Jordan Nicholas Pizarro asked:

The requirements maybe a bit stricter be at the front of this prestigious geek event, but we have many other ways to have a glimpse of the last CES in Las Vegas last week. As all gadget loving people know, CES or International Consumer Electronic Show is probably the largest and the most significant event for anyone who would like to get a glimpse on what’s coming the gadget community and the last trade show seems to be portraying a rather obvious them; and that is iPad Killers!

There are a variety of apps and add ons for the iPad and iPhone in the CES, noticeably some apps that turns your iPad to a portable blood pressure machine, then there’s this pretty nifty app where you can actually manipulate golf balls with miniature machines inside using the touch screen and blue tooth. If this was not your fancy, you can check out some other accessories like the solar power iPad protector and many other oddities for gadget lovers.

And for show off, we have really felt the presence of major companies here showing off their muscles in preparation for the upcoming release of iPad 2 which is tentatively scheduled on March 2 by none other than Steve Jobs himself. Microsoft, Panasonic, RIM, Lenovo, Sony, Motorola are all present and have given the attendees a glimpse of what they worked on to at least capture some of the market that Apple has continuously dominated since the release of their tablet last 2010. The only question is, will their designs be enough to match that of the upcoming new version of the iPad that Apple has cooked up?

There’s the PlayBook from RIM, for Motorola it’s the XOOM that has a dual processor that runs on the new Andriod HoneyComb OS, Lenovo IdeaPad, and many more so called iPad killers. Most of them brandishing one of their most prominent tablet product feature and that is the front and back facing camera. But to answer all of this, rumor has it that the new Apple iPad will also have 2 cameras, will be much faster with an enhanced A5 processing chip. And from our sources, it is rumored that Apple will retain the same price and 10 hour battery life of the previous iPad!

In the UK, iPad 2 insurance is already something that customers are already searching for and even if the new iPad hasn’t hit the stores yet, iPad 2 insurance is already ranking its way, suggesting a definite demand when the new version is released. For sure the major companies have done their best to try to match Apple, and in CES this was very clear. But will it have its desired effect when the time comes? That is something to see indeed.

Col. Littleton iPad and iPad 2 Cases Reviewed

Thomas Holohan asked:

In Tennessee there is a small town named Lynnville with a population of less than 500, in this small town of Lynnville there is small company named Col. Littleton that makes handmade leather products of extraordinary quality. Lucky for those that have a iPad 2, Col Littleton crafts some of the highest quality leather cases ever made for the iPad and iPad 2.

The cases are handcrafted very much the same way as in the pioneer day of America, each case has it’s own subtle characteristics and personality. Owning one of Col Littleton’s cases for the iPad or iPad 2 is like owning a genuine leather relic from the settlement days of America. Vintage is a light word to use when describing just how much history is infused in the style of the hand crafted cases. Col. littleton uses dry-milled, vegetable tanned American Steer hide which is tumbled in large wooden barrels to produce the desired finish and softness. Since there is no artificial finish applied to the leather it will develop its own characteristics as it absorbs oil from natural use, this effect allows the leather cases to have their own individual look and feel.

The solid brass button and clasp on the No. 5 Pocket for the iPad resembles those snap style closures from the old west, they snap shut easily but are very secure. Opening the snap takes a certain technique of lifting the leather tongue instead of trying to just pull the button apart. The case is designed this way to secure the iPad 2 in its pocket. It is a vintage design that works perfectly. For an extra 5 bucks you can have your initials hand stamped on the front of each case. The inside of the case has a very soft almost velvet feel to it so there is no worries about scratching your iPad 2.

The Col. Littleton hand crafted cases are in a class of their own, comparing these fine leather cases with others on the market, causes little debate in which one has pure quality in the manufacturing process, owning a Col. Littleton Leather iPad 2 case is like owning a historical artifact, you could almost imagine finding an original document signed by John Adams inside each case.

For a price of around $150.00 for the No 5. Pocket Bag to nearly $700.00 for the Courier Bag, you are paying for an item that will last you a life time, and give you piece of mind knowing you purchased an item that was handcrafted by one of the best leather crafters in the USA.

Nook Vs Kindle Vs iPad – The Works!

Marin M. asked:

In the world of ebook readers, the common comparison has always been between Nook vs Kindle vs iPad.

If you want to make sure that you get what you pay for, then you are also likely to ask, “Should I buy an iPad? Or a Kindle? Or maybe a Nook?

To help you make your decision, I’ve put down a list of Nook vs Kindle vs iPad facts.

To compare Nook, Kindle, iPad, check the following facts:

1. Price: When it comes to price, Nook and Kindle are head to head, with both prices ranging from $190-$260. Apple iPad on the other hand costs around $500-$630. Nook could be slightly more expensive than Kindle because Barnes & Noble sometimes charge taxes in their deployed locations while Amazon Kindle doesn’t. Thus when it comes to price, Kindle has it.

2. Battery Life: Once again Kindle is leading when it comes to battery life. It can last up to 2 weeks while iPad can last only up to 12 hours and Nook only lasts 10 hours.

3. Storage: If you compare Nook vs iPad vs Kindle in terms of storage, then the sure winner will be Barnes & Noble’s Nook. Aside from its 500,000 built-in storage, it comes with a microSD slot that expands the Nook’s external memory, allowing you to store more eBooks to your liking. Kindle has a capacity of 450,000 books (2GB), while iPad can only have 60,000 books.

4. Content: Thumbs up will be for Amazon Kindle. Although it is 50,000 short of titles compared to Nook, most reviews favor Kindle because it offers titles that are more in demand to readers. iPad lags behind as it doesn’t have too many books to compete.

5. Portability / Size and weight: Thinking about Nook vs iPad vs Kindle when it comes to size and weight, the leading model once again would be Kindle. It only weighs 10.2-ounces and has a 0.36-in thinness. Nook weight 12.1-ounces and is 0.5-in thick. iPad on the other hand is big and bulky for the traveling reader, weighing almost 1.5-lbs.

6. Connectivity: The comparison is hard between Kindle and Nook. Currently the device that has the better connectivity is Nook as it both has 3G and Wi-Fi, plus it can be in sync with other devices through Android-technology. Kindle2 though has International Wireless Capability, and soon there will also be a Kindle-Android.

7. Touch Screen: iPad has the most advantage when it comes to screen features. It rates high in color, resolution and touch-screen ability. Nook is also colored and touch-screen though. And Kindle is black-and-white and not at all touch-screen.

8. Readability: Kindle is said to be more reader-friendly because aside from its electronic ink, its contrast is so much better compared to Nook and iPad. Both the screens of Nook and iPad could be glary, thus could be faulty when reading on direct sunlight or during nighttime.

9.Text-to-speech: Kindle and iPad competes fairly as both have text-to-speech features; Nook doesn’t.

10. Other Nook vs Kindle vs iPad considerations: Nook has book lending and in-store browsing options. iPad has web browsing, email sending, and even gaming capabilities.
