Kindle 2 Electronic Learning
First, Amazon pioneered online bookstores so people can purchase books without visiting the bookstores. Then, they redefined reading by enabling people to read books without the books through the Kindle 2 ebook reader. And if those privileged with the initial Kindle are still gaga over it, wait till they catch sight of the Kindle 2. In a nutshell, the Kindle 2 is the original Kindle with a big step further into the future of reading. Like many other things, new-wave reading is electronic. If the eBook Reader is Oprah’s current favorite gadget, so will it be for many of her fans. Sure enough, the Kindles have been flying off the shelves. And why not, all-in-one shopping, purchasing and immediate downloading of books online anytime anywhere in the US and you don’t even need a computer for that as it’s done on the reader itself. There are quite a few brands of electronic book readers in the market but only a handful of them are generally considered to be up to mark. The two heavyweights are the Amazon Kindle and Sony PRS and they split bragging rights over various factors albeit not exactly in neck and neck fashion. If independent review sites are anything to go by, the Kindle has an emphatic overall edge and is powering away with its second edition - Kindle 2. To get hold of the Kindle 2, you have to act fast. Stock-outs especially during peak seasons are nothing new with the Amazon eBook Reader Kindle 2. For back-to-back Christmases, they sold out long before the holiday proper. Quoted delivery lead time continues to be volatile due to all the rage that it is now. EBay may be an alternative marketplace for the red hot e reader but price premium may be needed to circumvent the crunch. Analysts estimate that the original Kindle eBook Reader sold in excess of half a million units. Going by the current rate, the Kindle 2 is poised to sell lots more. That means it’s not only good for readers, it’s great for the environment. Electronic book readers can substitute the need for books so the Kindle 2 can save quite a few trees from being turned into paper for them. Yes, Buy Kindle 2 is green. The Kindle 2 Electronic Book Reader is also easier for your pockets. Although somewhat pricey, it essentially pays for itself pretty quickly especially in the case of avid readers. Amazon ebooks cost half that of their paper counterparts. Shop, buy and retrieve books online through Whispernet directly on the reader itself and bypass the hassle and expenses of driving around and waiting in line. Free sampling of Amazon ebooks is also a standard practice.
Amazon Kindle eBook Reader May Need Redesigning To Catch On
The Amazon Kindle, Amazon’s foray into hand held e-book reading devices, was released in November. The reader splashed onto the scene with a cover photo on Newsweek and Amazon hoped the Kindle would do for digital-reading-on-the-go what the ipod did for digital music. That is, make it a viable concept and business, replete with enthusiastic users.
However, there’s not a whole lot of evangelizing going on around the Kindle.
Some people appreciate the palm-sized smallness of the Kindle, while others deride its small keyboard and awkwardly designed casing. The opinions are mixed and there are plenty of them.
Once you have the Kindle, you can visit Amazon’s e-book store, where you can purchase brand new books for $9.99, which is a discount from what new hardcovers generally cost. Even though in this proposition you don’t end up owning a tangible tree-made book, you get to enjoy the reading of it. But that brings up a principal issue for e-book readers.
Do people want to read books the same way they read blogs and news stories, via a computer screen? A lot of the issues that people have had with the Kindle–that’s it’s ugly, that the black and white screen isn’t up to par, that the keyboard and scroll wheel aren’t that well designed, and that it’s too expensive–may stem from the fact that reading books on the Kindle e-book reader is not the same as reading a paper-bound book. The experience is not the same.
You get the information, but part of the joy is stripped from the experience. Another issue is that we expect a lot out of our hand held devices these days. The iphone has set a new standard–and that’s a phone.
An e-book reader should have a high degree of interactivity with other Kindle owners that are friends. It should look as advanced and appealing as an iphone. It should be able to do most of what a high-tech cell phone can do in addition to the e-book reading functionality. It seems like it does too little if you can’t use it to access maps, the yellow pages, and search engines. For $399, it should do some of these things. At the very least, you should be able to do Internet searches.
Computers have become so intertwined in our work and personal lives, that it seems logical that an e-book reader would be the next step. And maybe it is. But it shouldn’t just be an e-book reader. It should be an e-book reader and a cell phone. I think the Kindle’s designers misread the psychology of an e-book reader.
It’s not bibliophiles who will be using this thing. It’s the geek who wants his hand-held device to do more for him than he expects, and that he can wow his friends who don’t have one.
Surprisingly or unsurprisingly, the Amazon Kindle is sold out. Or at least that’s what it says on Amazon.
The Kindle makes sense on paper. But that’s the problem.
The Amazon Kindle Cover - Protect Your Investment
The Amazon Kindle cover that comes with the electronic reading device is rather inadequate with some things that will annoy someone who’s just spent a several hundred dollars on a high-quality piece of electronics. The original Kindle cover had even more problems, but the latest incarnation, still leaves some things that the Kindle owner might find annoying.
The most common complaint with the cover that comes with the Kindle, is the way that it keeps the eBook reader in place. While it has two slots, which you can slip your eBook reader into, there is a tendency for it to slip out, and if you’re not careful, it could hit the floor. As we know with all electronics, this is not an ideal circumstance. Many workarounds involving Velcro in strategic places have been suggested to keep the Kindle in one place when a person is reading.
There have also been a number of very good aftermarket companies offering stylish, high-quality solutions to the Kindle cover quagmire. Three higher quality brands are Strangedog, Stylzworld and Noreveusa
Amazon also has a new cover coming out at the end of the November called the M-edge cover, which is much anticipated. There are 12 different models that are genuine leather in various colors and compatible with an e-Luminator book light. If you own a Kindle, you’ll immediately recognize how a book light that connects and doesn’t wobble is a good investment for your Electronic Reading Device. There are also non-leather “Leisure Jackets” that sell for less, but on the whole the M-edge is a luxurious addition to the Kindle cover arena.
Strangedog
Strangedog offers handmade covers that are both beautiful and custom. He only makes a couple in each style and each is very well crafted and durable. He offers the Velcro option to hold the Kindle in place, and will even take fabric from the customer in order to make a cover to spec. There is a waiting period as he only makes a limited number of these per week. Strangedog take pride in his hand made covers, and the level of craftsmanship is excellent. In this plug-n-play world, Strangedog is a one of a kind vendor who prides his work over mass production.
Stylzworld
Stylzworld offers a cover that is made of unique cognac brown leather with a sparkling design on the inside. It is genuine leather, tri-fold cover that has cutouts for credit, business and memory cards as well as other types of documents. It has an innovative holding system as well as a cutout in the back for the on/off buttons. You will have to contact them if you live in the United States as they are currently looking for distributors and are mainly located in Europe.
Noreveusa
A traditional leather case/cover is offered from Noreveusa and comes in 3 colors. It has a clasp that closes and holds the Kindle steady. It has the same problems presented with the original Kindle, although the clasp and leather make it a nice Kindle cover to consider.
Amazon offers a few different cases that will protect your Kindle if a cover isn’t what you’re looking for. These other options include a Neoprene Sleeve Case with a screen protector, a travel package that includes a leather case and travel book light, and a black neoprene case that’s good for travel. However according to the word in the Kindle forum, it appears that most people are waiting on the M-edge genuine leather executive case as the best buy in Kindle covers for Christmas.
